Turkish version of the Italian peace flag

[Peace flag]

Turkish peace flag - Image by Tomislav Todorović, 9 January 2009

A "localized" version of the Italian peace flag, which is used in Turkey, replaces the Italian word "PACE" (Peace) with its Turkish translation "BARIŞ". The colour pattern of the stripes is purple, dark blue, light blue, green, yellow, orange and red; "BARIŞ" is inscribed in white over the light blue and green stripes.

The flag was seen:
- in London, during anti-war protests, 24 February 2007;
- in Istanbul, during protests against Turkish military operations in northern Iraq (brought there by members of some LGBTT organization), 24 March 2007;
- in Istanbul, during protests against Israeli politics, 28 July 2006 (the photo is from the site of Marxist-Leninist Communist Party of Turkey, but this seems not to imply that the flag was actually brought there by their members).

A close-up photo from Turkey, place not specified, 20 January 2004, is currently the earliest sighting of this flag's use.
